Peter Kaukola passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2026, in his 79th year.

Born November 30, 1946 in Finland to parents Juho Eemil Kaukola, and Helvi Kaukola.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Heather Sewell, whose companionship, love, and devotion brought him great happiness throughout their years together.

He will be deeply missed by his step-sons, Adam Sewell (Tracey McNamara) and Shane Sewell (Caly Sewell), and by his cherished grandsons, Tyler Sewell and Michael Sewell, who brought him tremendous pride and joy.

Peter is also survived by his brothers, David Kaukola (Bonni-Lyn Anderson), Aulis Kaukola, and Ken Kaukola, and his sister Terttu Kaukola- Brien, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Peter was known for his remarkable sense of humour, his love of horses and horse racing, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. Before moving to Elmvale, Peter was well known around the Bloor and Bathurst area of Toronto. He was "the guy" everyone knew, a hard working, familiar face, a trusted friend, and someone who always had time for a conversation and a laugh.

Together, Peter and Heather built a life centered on community. Through their businesses in Elmvale including the local community hotspot the Main Street Market Bazaar, and their passion for buying and selling antiques, they became well known and well loved by residents throughout the area. Peter thoroughly enjoyed meeting people, sharing stories, and forming lasting friendships. He was always ready with a smile, a joke, or a helping hand.

Peter will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, quick wit, and kind heart. He had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Chartwell-Tiffin, Sara Vista Long Term Care Centre and the dedicated doctors, nurses, and healthcare teams at Georgian Bay General Hospital for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided to Peter. Their support, professionalism, and compassion brought comfort not only to Peter but also to his family during a difficult time, and their fantastic care will never be forgotten.
