Passed away peacefully at the Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Marlene Tinney (nee Turner) of Elmvale in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Cecil Tinney. Dear mother of Doug (Denise), Linda (Peter) Desroches, and Dan (Geraldine). Proud grandmother of Kaitlin (Warren), Jessica (Jarek), Lindsay (Trevor), and Ryan (Emily). Great-grandma of Ellis, Jaxton, Wyatt, Joziah, Bryson, Jaylyn, Ryder, Julian, and Ren. Sister of Muriel (late Harold) Townes, late Stanley (Joan), late Louis (survived by Doreen), late Dennis (Ellen), and the late Garry (survived by Wendy) Turner. Sister-in-law of the late Fay Tinney, Joan Tinney, and the late, Ruth (Wally) Robinson, Arden (Marjorie), Eldon (Lois), Rex (Mildred), Manley (Betty), Morley (survived by Phyllis), Jack (Mary), Marie (Gil) Baker, Doreen (Gordon) Flear, Delsie (Joe) Jennett, and Zona (Don) Pilon. Marlene will be fondly remembered and missed by her many nieces and nephews.
The world has lost a bright light in the passing of Marlene. She was a hard working mother, devoted wife, avid sportswoman as well as a devoted volunteer in her beloved Elmvale community. Marlene could be counted on to participate and support any community event. She held the position of Secretary - Treasurer of the Flos Agricultural Society for 47 years officially retiring in 2004.
Marlene was an excellent athlete excelling in baseball and curling. She has been inducted into the Springwater Sports Hall of Fame for being a member of the 1954-55 Elmvale Comets Women’s Softball team. She also was inducted as a member of the 1996 Diamond Senior Ladies Curling team that was the first team representing Elmvale Curling Club to win a provincial championship. Marlene was a well known member of the community who could be found cheering on teams at the arena , the ball diamond or enjoying an afternoon or evening at the curling club.
Marlene was a devoted parishioner of St Johns United Church using her talents to support in the kitchen the making of many home cooked meals . She was always ready to be an active participant in other church committees and activities.
In honouring Marlene’s legacy please any donations in her name would be appreciated to be directed to the Elmvale Curling Club or St Johns United Church .
A visitation will be held at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the St. John’s United Church in Elmvale at 1 pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Reception to follow at St. John’s United Church.
