Donald James “Poppa” Warner
May 4, 1933 – February 14, 2026
Predeceased by his mother, Edna and father, Leslie
Donald “Poppa” Warner lived a life defined by courage, laughter, and deep devotion to his family.
Beloved husband, lifelong companion, friend, and love of his life to Josephine, for 71 years on September 18, 2025
He is survived by his brother, “Bud” Thompson.
He is a proud father to June (Dave), Susie (Jimmy), and Donny (Bridgette), and family friend Marilyn. Grandfather to Cindy (Bernie), Holly, Sherri, Tom (Katie) , and Austin (Jackie) for which he is proud of all their accomplishments.
His face lit up at the mention of his great-grandchildren, Robert, Ronan and Quinn.
A Veteran of the Korean War serving with the P.P.L.I. Donald served his country with honour before dedicating 31 years protecting his community as a Firefighter with the Toronto Fire Services.
He ran toward danger for a living—but at home, he was known more for running a good joke than running a tight ship.
He loved camping, being outdoors, and most of all, being surrounded by his family. If there was a campfire, a lawn chair, and people he loved nearby, he was exactly where he wanted to be.
“Poppa” had a quick wit, a playful sense of humour, and a way of making even ordinary moments memorable.
Popp’s strength was steady, his love was constant, and his laughter was unforgettable. He leaves behind a family who will forever hear his voice in their stories, see his influence in their values, and smile when they remember they way he could lighten any room.
His was a life well loved-brave, funny, loyal and full of heart.
Don and Jo lived in Toronto, retired in Elmvale and eventually settled in Barrie.
A visitation will be held at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale from 12 -2 pm on Monday, February 23. Funeral Service in the chapel at 2 pm.
