Carlton Waddling, known by his wife simply as “Car”, and by his grandkids as “Grandpa Duck”,passed away on January 25, 2026, at Sara Vista Longterm Care in Elmvale.
Carlton, son of Walter and Kathleen (Lindo) Waddling, was born on June 4th, 1935, in Toronto and was raised on a farm in Tottenham with his two older sisters, Betty and Arla.
Carlton is survived by the love of his life, his wife of nearly 68 years, Mary (née Mustard), whom he met at age 17 while attending Banting Memorial High School in Alliston. In his words, “she has been the source of my strength and the inspiration for me to get up and get at it. We have had a long, good friendship and love affair, and many good times together through that time.”
Carlton is further survived by his sister Betty Letherby, sons David and Christopher (Tim Chan), daughter Tracy (Bradley) McCutcheon, grandchildren Alexander, Abi and Gareth Waddling, Malcolm (Jordanna) & Kailey (Brandon Clow) McCutcheon, and his adored great-granddaughter Bridget McCutcheon.
Carlton enjoyed a good cup of coffee, fresh ski tracks on a Sunday morning with his family, and talking about his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs or Toronto Blue Jays with anyone who would listen. His professional life was spent as an accountant, but there was once a time he was a ski instructor, a farmer, and a horseback tour guide in the Canadian Rockies. Carlton led a very full and happy life, surrounded by family and friends for 90 beautiful years. His quick-witted jokes, everlasting support and heartwarming smile will be missed dearly by anyone lucky enough to have had him in their lives.
At Carlton’s and the family’s request, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Carlton’s life will be held on Sunday, February 22 from 2 pm - 4 pm at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale
