With deep sadness we announce the passing of Betty Jean Rance (nee Cole) of Barrie ( formerly from Elmvale) on Monday March 16,2026 in her 90th year. She was the beloved wife of Ray for 70 years (predeceased July 31,2024).   Loving mother of Anita (late Glen) Sanders, Brenda (Walter) Doret, Cindy (Mike) Taylor and Scott (Lisa) Rance.  Proud Grandmother to Steven, Tara, Michael, Kristin, Laura, Nicole, Elizabeth, Dolf, Matthew and Casey and Great-grandmother to Ryker, Mila, Hudson, Brooklyn, Nathan, Logan, Norah, Evie and Alister. Sister of Barry, John and the late Percy, Ross, June and Donna.  Betty will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Betty’s family was always her first priority. She taught herself to sew and was so good at it she even sewed her daughter’s wedding dresses.  She was always knitting something special and unique.  One year she had knit eleven pound puppies which she donated to the Barrie Christmas Toy Drive. Gardening was another of her passions and her flower gardens were beautiful and admired by everyone.  As a tribute to her and her husband’s hard work and passion for gardening they were honoured with a prestigious award from the Barrie Horticultural Society. As a lasting reminder of Betty’s love, each of her children and grandchildren were given a beautiful handmade quilt to cherish.

A memorial service will be held at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Homes in Elmvale on Saturday March 28th,2026 at 1 pm, reception to follow.

Memorial donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society.
