It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda Joan Nothrop (nee. Berek) on Monday, November 10th, 2025 at the age of 55. Brenda passed peacefully surrounded by family at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Beloved and cherished mother to Brandon, Olivia, and Nic. Loved and remembered by her husband of 23 years, Ron Nothrop. Survived and missed dearly by her sister Susan Berek (Glen Corbett) and predeceased by her mother Linda (2016), father Walter (2021), and brother David (2023). Daughter-in-law to Ed and Carol Nothrop (2021). Loved sister-in-law to Virginia, Derek, Nikki, and James. She will be missed by her many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Brenda was a supportive mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and community member. She selflessly devoted her life to her three children, and her strength and spirit will continue to live on in them. They will forever miss her deeply, but take peace in knowing she has gone home to the lord and has been reunited with her own mother.
Although her life was sadly cut short due to thyroid cancer, Brenda fought every moment of this journey with the upmost strength and determination. Her fight was nothing short of incredible, and she remained brave until her very last breath.
Brenda cherished the many friends she made throughout her lifetime. A special thank you to her dearest friends; Julie Ritchie, Liz Marshall, Kim Lewis, and Leanne Tiahnybok for their extra love and support during her difficult journey. Our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Brenda throughout her life. We are forever thankful for the profound love she felt from her community.
Her family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. Ying Meng, Dr. Deepak Dinakaran, Dr. Rishi Patel, and especially Dr. Lucy Ma for providing her with more precious time. We are grateful for all the staff we encountered at SunnyBrook Health Sciences Centre, Royal Victoria Regional Hospital, and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. To the amazing nurses, doctors, and support staff at Princess Margaret Floor 17A, thank you for taking such great care of her during the final weeks of her life.
A visitation will be held at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday, November 14, 2025. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 15 at 11 am in the funeral home chapel.
She will be forever missed.
