MARSHALL, WALTER JOHN

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Walter John Marshall. He is now in the loving presence of his Lord and Saviour and united with his daughter Patricia (2019). Walt fought his four and half year battle with cancer with great courage, dignity and determination. He passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe in the early morning hours of Saturday May 28, 2022 at Hospice Simcoe.

Walter was the beloved husband of Deborah (nee McKenzie) loving father to Chris (Anna Whitmore), Patricia (Chris James) and Stacy, Walt was the devoted and proud Poppy to Tegan and Hayden James. He will be greatly missed by his twin brother Willard (Helen), older brothers Harold (Janet) and Doug (Georgetta), brother and sister-in-law Stuart and Heather McKenzie, his many nieces, nephews, and his Godson Jesse (Bailey) and sister Michelle (David). Walter was predeceased by his daughter Patricia and his parents Tom and Dorothy Marshall.

Walter loved to curl and golf and was exceptional arm-chair commentator of these sports and many others. He enjoyed driving his 1935 Ford Humpback and honing his woodworking skills building scale model houses, classic cars, and yard art for the garden. His happy place was in the workshop listening to gospel blue grass and working on his next project. NASCAR racing was another big interest of his.

Walter was a founding member of Celebration Church Barrie. He served on many committees, participating in and leading many bible studies over the years. His faith was an integral part of who he was and how he lived his life. We are grateful to our church family for their heartfelt and continuous prayers.

We want to thank Gilda’s Club for their tremendous support and encouragement. “No one faces cancer alone.” We are so grateful. Our gratitude and heartfelt thanks goes out to Hospice Simcoe staff and volunteers and the community care nurses for the tender loving care you gave Walter. Thank you Dr. Morris for your compassion and caring. All of you made the unbearable bearable for our family. We also want to thank Dr. Butler and his team at Princess Margaret’s Hospital for working so hard for Walter.

Cremation has taken place. There will be visitation at Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale, June 24th from 2-4 and 7-9. There will be a Celebration of Life service at Celebration Church Barrie, Saturday June 25 at 2:30 pm. The service will also be streamed live on the Celebration Church YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person. The family respectfully asks that masks be worn at both the visitation and celebration of life. A private interment will follow in the fall.

In lieu of flowers a Memorial donation may be made to Hospice Simcoe, Gilda’s Club, Princess Margaret Foundation, and Celebration Church.
