Alma Elizabeth Faris passed away peacefully on July 6 in Sudbury in her 102nd year.  She was born on December 16, 1919 to Wesley and Beatrice Longhurst in Queensville, Ontario.  She is predeceased by her loving husband Neil Faris to whom she was married for 62 years.  She is also predeceased by an infant son and her daughter Elizabeth Land (Jim) and is survived by two children Mary (Lori) of Sudbury and Bob (Redha) of Toronto.  She was also a mother to Mark Grantham.  She was grandmother to Kate (Chris), Alison (Aaron), Ken (Danielle) and Richard (Cherith) and great grandmother to Sam, Lizzie, Kayleigh, Holly, Josie and Ellie.  She grew up in Newmarket with two brothers (Howard and Arnot) and four sisters (Kathleen, Rhoda, Norine and Pauline) and also lived in Sarnia, and the Elmvale area.  She spent the last three years of her life at Extendicare York in Sudbury.

She was a partner with Neil first on their farm and later in a construction business.  She also provided room and board for local teachers.  Alma was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church where she was an elder.  She taught Sunday School and led the “Children of the Church” and was an Honorary Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Society.  She was also very active in all of the communities in which she lived where she was a member of the Women’s Institute and led 4H Homemaking Clubs, and served with “White Cross” and on the local school board.  Alma loved to knit and her creations went to family and friends or the revenue from them was donated to “mission”.  She travelled extensively with Neil, was an avid gardener, and loved laughing and playing euchre, picking berries and baking and sharing pies and good stories.  She lived her life with compassion, tolerance and kindness for everyone she met and was well loved in return.
