Passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Village on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in her 81st year. Beloved wife of the late Alexander Houston, mother of Charlie of Fort McMurray, Bonnie of Ayton and Ronnie of Barrie. Grandmother of Melissa, Bryan Jr. and Finley. Sister of Phyllis and Raymond, deceased.
Joan was born in Bell Island, Newfoundland September 8, 1943. At the age of 18 she moved to Toronto. In 1990, Joan married Alex and they developed a love of coming to the cottage in Tiny Township. In 1996, they moved into their home on Stone St. and quickly developed friendships with many people in the community. Joan loved spending her days caring for a number of cats (any stray was welcome), gardening, sitting on the front porch reading or chatting with those who stopped to visit and in later years spending time with her loved dog, Millie, in her lap.
Joan was a very special neighbour to Tom, Colleen, Adrianna, Landon and Isaak, stepping in to care for the kids whenever Tom needed to answer a fire call, which led to a lifelong friendship.
Joan will be missed by family and friends but memories of time with her will live on.
In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service.
